Deep Freeze

I almost called this post, "The Big Chill," but the reference brought to mind inappropriate images of thirty-something baby-boomers moping around in South Carolina. I imagine, even in the depths of winter, South Carolina never looks like this: There's really no similarity between that movie and our recent lives in London, Ontario. I remember the characters doing things like dancing around, going for long walks, going outside, etc...

Ha! A walk outside!

Instead I titled this post after the classic 2003 slasher thriller set in an Antarctic drilling station. The infamous tag line,"Some things are better left frozen," says it all.

That line applies directly to the blog this month. With recent temperatures hovering around minus 30 Celsius (that's minus 22 degrees Fahrenheit for our friendly neighbo/urs to the south) we've had little more than frozen pipes to keep us occupied. And we've got nothing except muffins to claim as the fruits of January's labo/urs. That and crazy icicles. We Londoners also like to call them "Harbingers of Death": Dangerous buggers they are. This one came crashing to the ground like a twenty-foot high javelin when the temperatures rose overnight. I would have had a wicked picture to share of Colin holding one like a carving knife, but he couldn't wait for me to get the camera (something about the icicle being too "f-ing cold").

At least I got a picture of the muffins.

Well, Robin and I made it in to Toronto to visit with Chuck and Caitlin and take in the recently opened Art Gallery of Ontario... I guess if I were to describe the gallery, I'd probably call it something like:

Collections in a Corn Maze: the Art Gallery Of Ontario.

Y'know, the layout of the National Gallery of Art in DC is kinda confusing, but the A.G.O. makes it look like a cake walk. The layout of the gallery is very poor, and it's a bit of a confusing mess to navigate. A shame really, as the collections are really incredible. Ken Thompson and family really have given a wonderful gift to the country via their collections (amongst other things), it's a shame that they're displayed as they are. That combined with the No Photography policy of the A.G.O. pretty much means it was the one and only trip for me. The Gehry addition to the building is quite nice, and surprisingly understated from the outside. I was happy to get a chance to see the Aslop designed Sharp Center for Design at OCAD. It's a fun building that fits the area really well.

Here's some pictures of the trip =)
